Pluto Back In Aquarius

Pluto originally entered Aquarius January 20, 2024. Then went retrograde in Capricorn on September 1. Yesterday, November 19, Pluto left Capricorn and reentered Aquarius. Pluto will be in Aquarius till March 2043.

 

Pluto spends 11-32 years in a sign and takes 248 years to go through the zodiac. Pluto hasn’t been in Aquarius since 1777-1798 when the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, American, French, Haitian and Industrial Revolutions were happening.

Pluto was discovered in 1930 in Cancer 18° so no one living has consciously experienced Pluto in Aquarius through Gemini. 1930 was marked by a global depression, significant developments in modern psychology and fascism infecting Europe.

 

Pluto is a modern day malefic. Like the traditionally classified, greater malefic Saturn and the lesser malefic Mars, Pluto causes immense hardship and difficulties. That does not mean that we can’t experience benefits from Pluto. In my humble opinion though, these benefits are usually only ever gained after painful trials. It is associated with transformation, death, rebirth, compost, the phoenix, power dynamics, manipulation, exposure/deception, extremes, intensity, fear, elimination, genitals, reproductive organs and excretory system. Jessica Lanyadoo says it is related to “abandonment issues, all drug use, sexual trauma, tragedy, war, abuse, severely traumatic experiences, vulnerabilities around safety/survival”.

 

I have seen online from pop astrology or from people who don’t have deep knowledge of astrology that Pluto in Aquarius is going to feel like a relief in comparison to Pluto in Capricorn. Or even Pluto in Aquarius is going to be purely liberatory or some humanitarian utopia because Aquarius is interested in the people and in innovation as its modern ruler is the radical Uranus. I find this too simplistic and naively optimistic.

 

All signs and transits are multifaceted. We do not get to cherry pick the most pleasant parts of a transit and say we are only getting the most pleasant parts. Even transits between or with the benefics Jupiter and Venus have downsides to them. How transits effect each person really depends on the complexities of their chart.

 

Aquarius has unskillful or shadow qualities like every other sign. Aquarius’ traditional ruler is dogmatic and authoritarian Saturn. Saturn is not always those qualities, but certainly can be. Aquarius can be stubborn (in that special Fixed way) and can suffer from too much intellectualization.

 

In the 8 months we had Pluto in Aquarius we saw AI explode. It is on our search engines, it is sorting our resumes when we apply to jobs, it is taking notes for our doctors at our medical appointments, the list goes on. This transit will bring incredible advances in technology but considering that tech is owned by disgustingly rich people who do shit like abuse and exploit their workers or gentrify Puerto Rico to open up cryptocurrency headquarters, I have zero faith that developments in tech will be serving my best interest. Tech is not inherently evil, but these C-suite assholes running tech businesses sure are.

 

Catherine Urban pointed out in this video that during Pluto in Capricorn we saw the wealthiest people get wealthier despite movements like Occupy exposing the extremely unequal distribution of wealth. She says that with tech advances we should see more vocal public ethical concern regarding the addictive quality of tech. Considering how this country is run by rich fascists and corporations I bet we see laws written to further eliminate any protections we have against whatever addictive bullshit they sell to us. The lack of laws we have regulating tech is very intentional. It is not a matter of government not catching up to tech. It is government being paid off to ensure us as easy prey to corporations.

 

In their Pluto in Aquarius episode Chris Brennan and Nick Dagan state that this transit will show us people inventing things without any ethical considerations for their impact such as during a previous Pluto in Aquarius transit when the cotton gin was invented in 1793. It greatly increased the incentive to kidnap slaves because more cotton was able to be processed faster.

My predictions for the continuation of Pluto in Aquarius

 

-Will bring increased surveillance from the US government especially considering what the government is going to look like moving forward.

 

-More cybersecurity attacks and threats like this one that occurred over the summer and impacted Microsoft users.

 

-A rise in leftist movements that will present themselves as being for liberation but will be funded by the government or have nefarious motives. Pluto is deception, power and control.

 

-A rise in cults which we have seen and will continue to see especially with Neptune and Saturn in Aries co-occurring. There is a growing interest in spirituality outside of organized religion, however, bad actors will continue to exploit this.

-Yes, incredible advances in tech and how tech is used to exploit us. The tech’s continuation and intensification of resource theft, environmental and human harm that will be increasingly horrific which we already see in the killing of the Amazon and the genocide of Democratic Republic of Congo. Go watch a video of a Congolese man or child dig barefoot in a cobalt mine for the materials needed for an IPhone and tell me that tech is being wielded in the name equity or justice.

 

My remediation:

 

-Please don’t mindlessly buy electronics you don’t need. Please go educate yourself through books, documentaries and trusted podcasts about the global harm being committed in the name of technological advancement. Listen to Congolese people talk about the atrocities being committed against them and their home. And when you learn more, do better and tell others. You can start here.

-Use a VPN.

-Change your passwords routinely, don’t repeat passwords.  

-Be wary of phishing.

-Protect your information.

-Use one of those phone screen placing guide stickers to cover your laptop or phone camera.

-Don’t back up sensitive files on a cloud, use an external hard drive.

-Use browsers and search engines that are less likely to misuse your data.

-Reexamine your relationship to social media. Is sacrificing your privacy worth it? If it is, how can you maximize safety while engaging with it?

-Feeling out all communities we engage in as newcomers. Let people demonstrate through time and action they are trustworthy before you trust them.

-Do protection magic over your electronic devices.

-If you are having conversations about political activism do them in person as much as possible ideally with no phones or with your phone’s Wifi and data off and Airplane mode on or in an anti-tracking sleeve. You can also do this when you just don’t want Youtube picking up your conversations to later suggest content to you.

-Pluto wants to bring our attention to the pain we are suppressing or repressing. Aquarius processes feelings through the mind, thinking and talking. So being mindful to balance this out with embodiment practices. Get in your body, engage in your senses, touch yourself in a comforting way. Feel yourself rooted to this Earth.
