(This sliding scale specifically applies to my astrology readings. )
I am poor and grew up poor. The kind of poor where food wasn't always available and I was improperly dressed for the weather. My parents have been dead since childhood and I have zero generational wealth despite my people's land and wealth being stolen for centuries. In my memory I have had a family member send me money when I couldn't eat or pay my phone bill 2 times. I don't have a savings currently and most of my life have never had a savings account beyond $1000. I have been houseless multiple times in my life starting at 17 including being on the street, in a shelter and couch surfing. I say this not to garner your pity, but to illustrate what poverty is for people who possibly don't have a tangible example of it. And I recognize there are people in the US and worldwide who have it much, much harder than me.
As a Black Taíno Puerto Rican person, my work as an astrologer and witch does not receive the same visibility or profit as a white person doing the same work. I work twice as hard for much less in return. My sliding scale doesn’t exist for people who’d prefer to pay less, it is for people who can’t afford my services without it.
If any of my situation sounds like yours, you probably qualify for my sliding scale. If you have a different circumstance I did not identify but definitely impedes your financial resources send me an email and we can figure it out together.
The Sliding Scale criteria below is edited and borrowed from Jai Medina’s “Sliding Scale Philosophy”. Jai Medina is a Two-Spirit, mixed heritage, psychotherapist who practices shamanic work and founded a shamanic arts school. I have never met them or worked with them, but their blog is great! And you can work with them through their website linked above.
The following indicates you do not qualify for the sliding scale:
-you are white or appear completely white (a white author, Tracie McMillan, wrote about how even a disadvantaged white person still benefits financially from white supremacy)
-you have more than $1000 in savings or you can liquidate
-you own property or will inherit property
-you have inherited or will inherit resources when a family member dies
-you have a trust fund
-you have at least one person you could most likely borrow money from if you needed to (this person is not abusive or dangerous)
If you have any questions, feel like you are experiencing extenuating circumstances or you are of identities that are both privileged and greatly reduce your resources such as being white and chronically ill, please email me and we can talk about it. iristhebrujx@protonmail.com
